DCCC RELEASES NEW AD - SCHILLING TEAM MAKES ROOKIE MISTAKE

As reported by THE CAPITAL FAX (which covers Illinois politics) the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released a new "anti-Schilling" ad which plays on the same anti-employee/pro-export jobs theme as earlier ads. (The VIDEO of Schilling turning his back on the man asking the question about whether or not he supports legislation to discourage the export of jobs is a gift that keeps on giving as they say.)

THE ROOKIE MISTAKE

The Schilling media people made a rookie mistake in their "Shame" ad (well, several mistakes, beginning with lying which was most likely not a mistake at all but the whole point). Seems as though there is a sticky little issue of federal campaign rules that say the candidate's photo must be included in the ad along with the "I approved this message" line. They didn't. The rub is that once you break a rule like that your campaign is no longer eligible for reduced advertising rates which makes your media buys more expensive. Compounding the problem is the disparity in fund raising - Bustos enters the home stretch with far more money in the bank than Schilling and has outraised him consistently throughout the campaign.

The Schilling people have taken that ad off the air already - most likely, in IMHO, because it was judged to be SHAMEFULLY MISSLEADING by FactCheck.org.

Politifact Florida Rates GOP Claim of "Skyrocketing" Obamacare Premiums as MOSTLY FALSE

I know this isn't Illinois, but the basic dynamics are the same. Bobby Schilling has made these same wild claims himself. The gist of his claim is based on a Forbes/Manhattan study that compares the cost of the three cheapest pre-ACA insurance plans against the three cheapest plans today. The problem is that before the ACA there were few standards that insurance plans had to meet. Consumer Reports did a piece on these plans saying that they weren't really insurance at all due to their skimpy coverage. Insurance plans today MUST cover things like pre-existing conditions, maternity care, and can't kick you off when you get sick.

The complete Politifact story can be found HERE.

New Blog! - Just Say No to Schilling

I have a new blog with a new address, Just Say No to Schilling. There isn't much material there yet but I will be adding new information there in the months ahead.

I Can't Believe that Bobby Schilling is Trying Again

I almost coughed out my skull this morning as I read that Bobby Schilling was going to try to win the 17th. District again. I was stunned to read that the person who turned his back on Sensata was now, suddenly, inexplicitly, "concerned" about the middle class. I left this blog up after the election thinking that I would take it down in a few months. Now I believe that I will be creating a NEW blog in the next few days with a more appropriate URL and will put a link here at that time.

Bustos is the winner

See the story in the Quad City Times

Many thanks to all who visited this blog over the last few months. I know that all of you are not Bustos supporters and I can respect that. Hopefully, Cheri will be a voice of moderation in Washington and not one of ideology, and most of all, someone we can actually trust and who has integrity.

Some Final Thoughts

Looking at the averages of swing state polls it looks like Obama is going to win a second term. What is more uncertain, however, is if Bobby Schilling is. In all my life I have never seen a politician with less regard for the truth than Bobby Schilling. I was raised by my parents to tell the truth, even when it wasn’t to my advantage. I can remember a few times where I paid a price for being honest – but at least I was honest. Bobby Schilling, on the other hand, can’t seem to help himself. He lies about his opponent, he lies about his votes, he lies about Medicare. The truth is not in him. His lies are so blatant that for the life of me I can’t understand why anyone would vote for him – but he has tens of thousands of supporters. Good luck to Cheri Bustos on Tuesday. Please make sure you get out and vote. My family has already cast their ballots – for Cheri of course – early.
