DCCC RELEASES NEW AD - SCHILLING TEAM MAKES ROOKIE MISTAKE

As reported by THE CAPITAL FAX (which covers Illinois politics) the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released a new "anti-Schilling" ad which plays on the same anti-employee/pro-export jobs theme as earlier ads. (The VIDEO of Schilling turning his back on the man asking the question about whether or not he supports legislation to discourage the export of jobs is a gift that keeps on giving as they say.)

http://youtu.be/nFftgAc4TqY

THE ROOKIE MISTAKE

The Schilling media people made a rookie mistake in their "Shame" ad (well, several mistakes, beginning with lying which was most likely not a mistake at all but the whole point). Seems as though there is a sticky little issue of federal campaign rules that say the candidate's photo must be included in the ad along with the "I approved this message" line. They didn't. The rub is that once you break a rule like that your campaign is no longer eligible for reduced advertising rates which makes your media buys more expensive. Compounding the problem is the disparity in fund raising - Bustos enters the home stretch with far more money in the bank than Schilling and has outraised him consistently throughout the campaign.

The Schilling people have taken that ad off the air already - most likely, in IMHO, because it was judged to be SHAMEFULLY MISSLEADING by FactCheck.org.

Politifact Florida Rates GOP Claim of "Skyrocketing" Obamacare Premiums as MOSTLY FALSE

I know this isn't Illinois, but the basic dynamics are the same. Bobby Schilling has made these same wild claims himself. The gist of his claim is based on a Forbes/Manhattan study that compares the cost of the three cheapest pre-ACA insurance plans against the three cheapest plans today. The problem is that before the ACA there were few standards that insurance plans had to meet. Consumer Reports did a piece on these plans saying that they weren't really insurance at all due to their skimpy coverage. Insurance plans today MUST cover things like pre-existing conditions, maternity care, and can't kick you off when you get sick.

The complete Politifact story can be found HERE.

Schilling now claims he is a Democrat in new mailing

This guy must be underwater in the polls! The Schilling campaign sent out a mailer in which Schilling trys to pass himself off as a Democrat - see the full story HERE.

Update:

I received the same mailer yesterday and was able to go over it last night. Basically Schilling is trying to make it look like he is "endorced" by Democrats using a phony newspaper. I thumbed through the piece and a couple of outright lies jumped out. (This guy has no shame and no integrity.)

  1. He alleges that Cheri is supporting the infamous $750 billion+ "cuts" to Medicare. There are two problems with this claim. The first is that they are cuts to future provider reimbursements and cuts to the subsidies provided private insurers in the Medicare Advantage program and NOT recipients. The second problem is that Schilling voted for these same cuts to the penny.
  2. He also alleges that the Ryan budget plan for Medicare, a plan that he voted for, would allow recipients to choose from private insurance plans. So far so good - but what he doesn't mention is the added cost of this approach, estimated to be $6,400/recipient.
  3. He never mentions that he is part of the Medicare problem. His insistance that Medicare pay full list price for drugs costs all of us an estimated $60 billion+.

With Hurricane Sandy Bearing Down on the East Coast - Remember That Schilling Voted to cut FEMA

With a "Frankenstorm" bearing down on the East coast remember that Schilling tried to cut FEMA funding in two ways. The first was to cut their funding overall, and the second, and just as important, was to cut the FEMA emergency fund established by President Obama. The president’s idea was to have $10 billion set aside for Katrina-like emergencies so that FEMA could act quickly. Bobby Schilling sought to cut that money insisting that Congress could deliberate on emergency funding while the victims cooled their heals. Read more about it in The Palm Beach Post. Note that this is the same approach that the House of Representives has used for drought relief and Schilling left town to campaign without doing anything - Illinois farmers are still waiting.

No Rape Exception? It's in the Republican Platform - and Bobby Schilling was a co-sponsor of a bill that would do just that

William Slatan over at SLATE reminds us that Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock aren't outliers - they reflect mainstream Republican thinking including Bobby Schilling. READ THE ARTICLE ON SLATE HERE.

New poll shows Bustos in the lead

After several straight polls showing the race for the 17th. district being a tie, a NEW POLL shows Cheri Bustos opening up a 4 point lead. This is in stark contrast to earlier polls at the beginning of the race that showed Schilling with a double diget advantage. However, the longer the race goes on and the more pople find out about Schilling, the more likely they are to vote for Bustos.

Friday, Oct 19 Ed Show - live from Freeport / Bainport

One important thing to remember about Sensata - Mitt Romney owns hundreds of thousands of shares and is personnally benefiting by shipping these jobs to China
Or as one of his partners at Bain commented, "Let's not kid ourselves about just how cheap offshore labor really is."

Bain is shipping my job to China. Ask me anything.

Blogging from Bainport (Freeport, Il). Workers at Sensata, a Bain company that is partially owned by Mitt Romney, are losing their jobs to China. To add insult to injury, they are being forced to train their replacements. A blogger is asking for questions HERE

What Romney says about abortions

Just an FYI to my pro-life friends. Banning abortions won't end them. I'm old enough to remember life before Roe v Wade and there were lots of abortions. If a high school girl missed her period, her OBGYN would give her a "D&C". Sympathic doctors would also perform abortions past he first month. Abortions were available before Roe and will be available if it is overturned. The question is, does anyone besides Democrats want to do anything about the causes of abortion? Stopping funding for Planned Parenthood, the one organization that provides OBGYN services to poor women, won't stop abortions, it will increase them. Cutting Head Start (which Romney and Schilling would like to do) won't stop abortions, it will increase them as more women can't get the help they need. Cutting back on food stamps, which Schilling has voted for, won't stop abortions, it will increase them as it becomes harder for poor people to feed their families. My question is; are you pro-life or are you just pro-criminalization?

Feel free to add your comments.

Bustos visits 'Bainport' - Schilling a no show

Freeport, IL – Residents of Congressional District IL 17 thanked candidate Cheri Bustos for visiting ‘Bainport’ today and for her continued support of Sensata workers’ fighting to save their jobs from outsourcing to China by Bain Capital. (NOTE: As a major shareholder in Sensata, Gov Romney is personally profiting by moving these jobs to China while American workers lose.)

Sensata has emerged as a flashpoint in the controversy over Romney’s ties to Bain with the company’s employees asking Mitt Romney to intercede on their behalf and save their jobs. Their cries go unanswered and Romney seems to be simply ignoring these workers.

For months, residents too have been calling on Rep. Bobby Schilling to stop the export of these U.S. jobs overseas and their pleas have obviously fallen on deaf ears.

“We now know firsthand what a Romney/Schilling economy looks like, losing good U.S. jobs,” said Deborah Johnson a voter in IL 17. “We need someone to speak for us in Washington D.C. and Cheri Bustos has shown us time and time again that she is a leader and speaks for the 99% instead of the richest 1%. Cheri needs to win this election and I will not rest until she is elected.”

In September, the workers began to camp outside the plant to protest Bain’s decision to ship their jobs to China and increase the pressure on Mitt Romney. Romney still receives income from Sensata Technologies. The workers say will they stay on-site in until they are heard and in the hope of illustrating the dangers of re-electing Bobby Schilling and of a Romney economy.

National media discovers "Bainport" - and how Gov. Romney is making money by moving jobs to China during the campaign

The national media is discovering Bainport (Sensata in Freeport, Illinois). Bainport is a protest camp set up by Sensata workers whose jobs are being shipped to China by Bain Capital during the current presedential campaign. There is a good roundup of the national media attention on DailyKos. As mentioned previously, Mitt Romney is a large shareholder of Sensata and is profiting right now during the campaign by shipping these jobs to China.

Remember - Schilling supports:

  • Free Trade deals that ship jobs overseas
  • Tax break incentives for companies to leave the U.S.
  • Hiding the number of jobs companies send overseas
  • Cutting job retraining programs for workers whose jobs were lost overseas

Rep. Schilling, you said, "Americans Need Jobs Now" in the Argus Dispatch on September 23.1 Will you stand up for the jobs at Sensata Technologies in your district and tell Bain Capital that you do not support outsourcing those jobs to China? We demand an answer.

Q: What does Bobby Schilling have in common with Todd Akin?

A: A LOT

Both Bobby Schilling and Todd Akin were original sponsors of HR3 (No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act – a.k.a. the “Let Women Die Act” by its detractors). The bill narrowed the definition of “rape” to “forcible rape” in order to exclude things like statutory rape. The bill also excludes using taxpayer money to fund an abortion when the life of the mother is in danger. Paul Ryan has repeatedly referred to this as a “loophole”. Check out the video below.

Pre-Debate Rally for Cheri Bustos at WQAD TV

(Moline, Ill) -- On Thursday, October 11, Quad City residents will join to support Congressional Candidate Cheri Bustos at WQAD TV station in Moline as Bustos debates Mr. 1% candidate Bobby Schilling.

“We have to stop Bobby Schilling (IL 17) from getting re-elected, not because he’s a bad man, but because he does not understand the issues and instead votes for tax cuts for millionaires,” said Lynda Harper, a Rock Island resident. “He calls himself a moderate but the truth is he voted with the Republican Party 92% of the time. He won’t sign the Bring Jobs Home Act and is currently allowing good jobs to be shipped overseas. He hasn’t stood up for seniors or children and says he will support a Romney/Ryan healthcare bill and economy --he is out of touch. Whereas Bustos has promised to represent working families and make the richest 1% pay their fair share in taxes as well as keep middle class jobs here in the U.S.”

For months, constituents of Rep. Bobby Schilling have asked him to back an economy that works for everyone but he just keeps rubberstamping a ‘trickle down’ economic approach that only makes the rich richer. Schilling says he will support a Romney Economy and this means one thing: profits before people.

WHO: 99% Voters” from IL 17 Congressional District

WHAT: Rally to Support Bustos for Congress (IL 17) – Say “No” to Mr. 1% Candidate Bobby Schilling

WHEN: 5:45 p.m. Thursday, October 11, 2012

PLACE: In front of WQAD TV Station, 3003 Park 16th Street, Moline, Illinois

NOTE: This effort by 99% Voters in the community and members of Action Now Illinois is NOT authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.

  • Hiding the number of jobs companies send overseas
  • Cutting job retraining programs for workers whose jobs were lost overseas
Join me in asking Bobby Schilling to take a stand on the Sensata Technologies workers plight:
